Stricker Might Get Ryder Cup Spot

The way Steve Stricker is performing at the ongoing PGA Championship at the Baltusrol Golf Club, it looks like he will find a place in the US Ryder Cup team.

He was within striking distance of getting the 2016 PGA Championship trophy currently played in New Jersey. The avid golfer is in the form of his life at present with top five finishes in two events this summer.

The 49 year old Stricker is on the verge of entering the senior tour has really come back well after a back surgery at the end of 2014 made him to take up an eased golfing schedule in 2015. He was named in the US Ryder Cup team as the vice captain of the team by US captain Davis Love III. He was named along with Jim Furyk, Tom Lehman and Tiger Woods. The Ryder Cup will be played in Minnesota during the fall.

Stricker said that the thought of playing in the US Ryder Cup team was always at the back of his mind and knew that he would be part of the US Ryder Cup team, but not as a player. He had played just 9 tournaments after his back surgery as he was looking to get healthy. He says that his back feels better in 2016 and he feels very strong mentally and physically. The results are there for everyone to see. Stricker feels that he is playing his best golf at the moment and regards playing in the Ryder Cup as his ultimate goal than any other tournaments.

The Ryder Cup will be taking place at the Chaska’s Hazeltine National Golf Club between September 30 and October 2. There will be 12 American players pitted against 12 European players this year who are chosen according to their rankings and earnings they have achieved over the past couple of years.
